Noémie J. Bonnet is a multidisciplinary artist obsessed with edges: the edges of walkable land, the edges of the human and non-human, the edges of cognition. Her studio is a warm compost heap where she brings in materials and ideas encountered while wandering, often along shorelines, where waterways expel industrial waste, driftwood, and colony-forming plants. She then seeks ways to hybridize them into multivalent forms that guard their secrets closely.
She has shown her work with Flux Factory, MAMA Projects, and White Columns, among others, and has permanent public murals in two locations in Providence, Rhode Island. She has been awarded residencies at Vermont Studio Center and the Jentel Artist Residency in Wyoming. Her writing on art and culture has appeared in the Peer Review journal, Flavorpill, and VICE’s now defunct Creators Project, where she contributed over 100 articles, including a weekly column on art conservation. She holds a BA from Brown University and an MFA from CUNY Hunter College. Born in France and raised primarily in the United States, she now works in Newburgh, NY, in a 1920s warehouse building that formerly housed a mattress factory.
